Black residents of our community need hope—and hope begins with opportunity. Costco’s starting pay in Stuart will reportedly be $16 an hour. I know far too many people trying to get by on $8 or $9 an hour, and living as many as 10 people in a house. This level of entry pay—as well as the benefits available through Costco—could change many lives, and even generations, for the better.”

The project will create construction jobs and long-term retail and warehouse distribution jobs, increase buying power for families and small businesses, and provide a needed housing option. … Costco hires locally and mostly full-time, with employees starting at $16 per hour with generous benefits. Even part-time employees are eligible for healthcare benefits and 401K. Their competitive employment practices contribute to their 93 percent retention rate. Costco sets the bar higher, and I believe these practices will inspire other local employers to follow suit.”
